Strong Power, But Reliability and Quality Control Missed the Mark

I had high hopes for the ATK 383 Stroker (HP101C)-470 HP out of the crate sounded perfect for my street/strip setup. When it runs, it absolutely pulls hard and sounds aggressive. No complaints about the power it delivers.
Unfortunately, the experience hasn’t lived up to the performance numbers. Out of the crate, I noticed signs of poor quality control-loose bolts, paint flaking off, and minor leaks before it even hit the road. After only a few hundred miles, I started hearing valvetrain noise and ended up needing to tear into it sooner than I ever expected.
Customer service was hit or miss, and getting clear answers took more time than it should have. For a high-performance long block at this price point, I expected better reliability and a more polished product. It might be a good engine after some sorting out, but it definitely shouldn’t come needing this much attention.
